Death Note

A remarkable movie indeed. I hesitated to watch this movie at first, since I thought that it was a horror movie. But instead, I looked through the animated version, as it was based from it. After watching a few episodes, that's the time I found out that the story was created by a really creative and brilliant writer.

It is a mind-boggling, puzzling and really complicated story that is eventually cleared out after a few minutes of watching the scenes. The plots are explained and so, you don't need to keep on guessing and thinking about how it happened or why it happened. And this, I think makes it easy to understand the storyline.

Though it is a Japanese-made movie, you could find a DVD release with an English sub-title to follow along with the conversations within the story.

It focuses on police-detective settings as crimes are being committed and undergoing research.

Primarily, the 'crimes' that the police are investigating are based on mass murders of criminals around the world. Including the most wanted top villains, notorious and bad attitude felons.

Now how was this possible? Well, the main character in this story is a student named Light Yagami. One rainy night, he stumbled upon a black notebook - which is called the "Death Note". It was quite weird that the notebook was there on the ground, not getting wet even though it was raining. Quite a mystery, but even though uncertain, he picked it up and when home.

Opening the door to his room, he sat on his study desk, turned on the lamp, and read the contents of the notebook. There were instructions on how to use the notebook and this made him smile, thinking that, it's a very funny joke to write the person's name, and within 40 seconds, that person dies.

And while he was reading the instructions, the TV was turned on and the news was broadcasting about a certain criminal with his picture and name. Just for fun, he writes down the name.

The next morning, he woke up and went down for breakfast. To his surprise while browsing through the newspaper, the criminal he saw on the news last night is already dead!

Couldn't believe what had just happened, he rushed to his room and read the Death Note notebook again. He was certain that this might have been a coincidence.

And one night, while waiting for the train passing by in the crossroads, Light meets the three guys who were in the bar the night they picked on him, and also the night he found the Death Note. Out of curiosity, to make sure that the Death Note is real, Light writes down the bad guy's name "Tako" in the notebook.

Suddenly, the guy grabs his chest in pain, and falls to the ground, dead from a heart attack. Light passes by, looking at the guy, knowing that this is for real.

He heads for the place where he picked up the Death Note. Feeling that someone was looking at him, he looks up and sees Ryuk, the death god, owner of the Death Note.

Ryuk flies down to meet Light, and from hereon, Ryuk follows Light anywhere he goes.

Light is the only one who could see Ryuk as he had touched the Death Note. Anyone else who would be touching it, would also be able to see Ryuk.

Light is an intelligent student, always scoring high grades in school. Actually, he's the number one student. And also being the son of the Chief of Police, makes his reasoning and skills in logical thinking highly accepted. He was also able to help his father solve some cases.

With this new found power, he had an ideal of creating a new world, free from evil people. And this is where the mass murder of criminals around the world started.

Everything was going well as planned, until the situation reached L, a secret detective agent who conducted and solved several cases nobody else could have done. Using a proxy to communicate with the police, and a laptop, L was able to specify exactly what needs to be done and so, the team of investigators was formed in the police' headquarters and the case was started on "Kira", a japanese word meaning 'killer'.

With L showing up into the scene, the pace of criminals killed slowed down a huge percentage as Light now had someone as an opponent in putting him to justice. With both of their identities unknown to the public, they struggle to outwit each other.

Who would win in this battle of 'Righteous' rivals? One seeking for a better world, cleansed of evil, and one hunting down the one committing a mass number of criminal murders to be brought to justice.

Who's side would you pick? I already know who I have chosen. So, if you'd like to know more about what happens, I'd suggest you to get a copy and watch it on DVD.

One very good moral of this story is, a person's identity is very important. So, don't give your personal information easily, especailly to a stranger. You 'must' protect your own privacy.
